Female Pattern Baldness

Female Pattern Baldness

The most common reason of the female pattern baldness is androgenetic alopecia. It mimics the male pattern baldness as thinning and miniaturizing hair.

However, unlike men, the front line is generally preserved, and a low hair density loss occurs near the midline of the scalp. Ludwig scale ranges from stages I to III.

As in male pattern hair transplantation, the primary treatment option for women is hair transplant surgery. Surgical option should be combined with medical therapy. Topical minoxidil is the only medical option for women which approved by FDA. However, other drugs such as spironolactone, oral contraceptives, finasteride and dutasteride can be used with great success. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is also included in treatment protocols which are recommended by the FDA.

Hair transplant surgery is one of the safe options with more permanent and impressive results, especially with the wide range of surgical centers where long hair transplantation is performed without hair cutting.
